Unique Features

Every institution survives and grows on innovations and experiments. Taking this into consideration, National College has introduced four important innovations which have been running very successfully for the past five years. These innovations have brought about a sea change in the general atmosphere in the college and have elevated it to an institution with excellent student-faculty interaction, wonderful research opportunities and a competitive spirit which keeps in mind the college motto “Play the Game” and encourages healthy and fair competition in every field.

The four innovations are:

Tutor System

The Tutor/Mentor system encourages a more meaningful and close relationship between the students and teachers.
  • A class of 120 students are divided into batches of 20 each and put in charge of a teacher who acts as friend, guide and counselor.
  • Regular meetings are held with fixed agenda where the students are informed about all the rules and activities of the college.
  • Students can seek clarifications in matters like examination rules, academics or any others. Many personal activities like celebration of birthdays, group outings to the cinema, play and picnics enhance the rationale of the Tutor system and add a new luster and meaning to it.
Since its inception, the system has been successful in establishing closer interaction between the students and teachers.

Honors Program

The syllabus in colleges is compartmentalized into Arts, Commerce, Science etc. with the result that students do not get an opportunity to study subjects in areas which do not belong to the stream. The Arts student cannot go beyond the options offered. This results in a stunted academic growth. To meet the shortcomings of the curriculum, the college decided to introduce an inter-disciplinary research based program – Honors Program. The students are encouraged to take on projects from other disciplines.

  • A total of four projects are required to be completed for the Gold Medal and Honors certificate.
  • The four projects must be from different departments.
  • Each project entitles a student to two credits. Eight credits can be obtained over a period of three years of graduation. Moreover, the students can continue even after graduation if they have not completed their eight credits.
The college takes pride in offering a platform to students for developing their research instincts and interests.

House System

It was observed that participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities was restricted to only a few front runners. To encourage widespread participation, the college decided to introduce the House system which would ensure larger support and more competitive spirit.

  • Five houses were organized and were named after pancha tattva, the five elements of nature – Agni, Aakash, Jal, Prithvi and Vayu.
  • The Houses were assigned symbolic colors - red, dark blue, light blue, green and white respectively.
  • Each House selected a mascot and a logo.
  • Special flags and banners were designed so as to give each house a distinct identity.
  • All the students belong to one of these five Houses.
  • Students look forward to the annual Blowfest and start planning the moment they begin the academic term. The entire competition can best be described as “Clash of the Titans!”

Gold Card

College has always maintained a positive attitude towards students which includes encouraging students to attend their regular lectures. This has became a challenge to colleges specially in the wake of temptation of callcenters and other BPO jobs. Instead of taking a negative attitude of punishing the defaulters, the college has decided to reward and appreciate students having attendance above 90% in all subjects by awarding a gold card. This card is given every semester and his valid for the next semester. Students have been given many privileges under this card. Some of them are:

Privileges: (Regularity and Punctuality)
1. 10% Discount on all food items in the Canteen.
2. Express gold line queue for fee payment.
3. Priority on all administration office related matters.
4. No attestation charges.
5. No transcript fees.
6. Priority entry in the Auditorium.
7. 3 Books at a time form the library.
