It is indeed my pleasure to take over as Principal, R.D. National College, from the able hands of Dr. (Ms.) S. Anand. Under her leadership, the college has made giant strides in terms of academic, curricular and co-curricular achievements. The infrastructure has undergone a sea change and has truly come up to international standards.

Any educational institution is an amalgamation of three sets of people that is teachers, students and administrators, each performing distinct set of functions. Nevertheless, a symbiotic relationship prevails among them. However, it is the students who are pivotal not only to the educational organization but also to the country as a whole. Students, that is the youth are the torchbearers of the nation initiating and facilitating development in the true sense of the term. It is these young minds which have to be sharpened. Their skills need to be honed. Not only academic development but an overall enhancement of personality - mind, body and soul should be emphasised. We need to express ourselves uninhibitedly without any barriers that could exist on the basis of religion, caste or language and thereby blend ourselves harmoniously with the broader culture of which we are a part. At this point I would like to quote a few lines from Rabindranath Tagore's poem "Where the mind is without fear"
"Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Into that heaven of freedom my father let my country awake."

This is tremendously significant even today. The volcano of rich knowledge possessed by our teaching staff would push forth this process and make our institution scale greater heights. As the principal of this prestigious college that fosters an inter - disciplinary approach, I look forward to the college making rapid strides. This would be possible with voluntary participation of the student community in college and inter – collegiate activities with zeal and enthusiasm. At the same time I would also emphasize discipline and classroom attendance.

This academic year will also mark the introduction of a new course M.Sc. in Biotechnology. And we are desirous of making it a success.

I do hope I continue Dr.(Ms.) S. Anand’s legacy with sincerity and to the best of my ability.
