The Music Appreciation Club provides a platform for young
talents. The aim of the music appreciation club is to make
students know the aesthetics of music, make them understand
classical music which is the soul of music. But in todays
fast world classical music is totally neglected. People appreciate
light music but don’t know that behind every form of
music there is classical music, majority of students listen
to only film music and private albums. Every year we try to
attract students towards classical music through some forms
known to them. This year we selected plain, simple but sweet,
melodious tolk tunes. The program was ‘Folk Songs based
on Classical Music in any Regional Indian language (Vocal
and Instrumental)’. This program got overwhelming response
not only from students but also from teaching as well as non
– teaching staff. We had performances from all three
categories students, teaching and non-teaching staff and audience
hade all the colours of Indian tolk music which included Rajasthani,
Bhojpuri, Sindhi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujrathi, Kannada, Malyalam
etc. A student played Raag Desi Tolk Tune on Harmonium. The
audience enjoyed the programme and also learnt classical Raagas
on which the songs were based on.
